Field Technican

Techy is seeking a reliable and proactive Field Technician to support clients across the Southern Maryland region through scheduled monthly onsite visits. In this role, you will troubleshoot and resolve network, hardware, software, and connectivity issues; perform routine system checks; and install, maintain, and support computer systems to ensure stable, secure, and efficient technology environments, primarily within school settings and other diverse client environments.

The ideal candidate is a strong problem-solver who can work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and minimize disruption to users. Success in this position also requires excellent communication and professionalism, including the ability to clearly explain technical issues in non-technical terms, provide timely updates, document work thoroughly, and recommend improvements when appropriate.

This is a dependable, hands-on role that demands consistent attendance, punctual onsite visits, and follow-through until issues are fully resolved. Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical support for desktop computers, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices across various locations.
• Communicate clearly with users to diagnose issues accurately, provide step-by-step guidance, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service.
• Troubleshoot hardware failures, software glitches, operating system issues (Windows, macOS, Linux), and network connectivity problems efficiently.
• Manage IAM systems using tools like Microsoft Admin and Google Admin suites.
  
• Configure and maintain computer networks, including LAN (Local Area Network), VPN (Virtual Private Network), firewalls, and other security protocols to ensure secure connectivity.
  
• Document work performed, issues identified, and resolutions provided
• Assist with the setup, installation, and upgrade of hardware components and software applications in accordance with organizational standards. 
• Support IT infrastructure by managing operating systems, network devices, and security systems to optimize performance and security.

Requirements

• Proven experience in technical support roles involving desktop support, help desk operations, or field service work.
• Strong knowledge of computer hardware components, operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), and software troubleshooting techniques. 
• Familiarity with computer networking concepts, including LAN setup, VPN configuration, firewall management, and network security best practices. 
• Experience working with IT support tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, BMC Remedy, or similar ticketing systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users. 
• Ability to work independently in the field while managing multiple priorities effectively. 
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional are preferred but not required. 
• Ability to travel regularly throughout the DC Metro and Southern Maryland region

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders (up to 14 feet) and work in confined spaces like attics. 
• Comfortable bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred

• Experience supporting K–12 schools or educational environments
• Experience deploying and maintaining on-premise hardware such as network switches, firewalls, wireless APs, IP surveillance cameras, and electronic access control systems.
• Basic understanding of cybersecurity best practices, such as the NIST CSF 2.0, etc.
